Being the 1% Difference

Things are understandably difficult at the moment for a lot of people. As we are all aware, Ireland entered recession in 2008 and there has been a lot of financial uncertainty also affecting other parts of the World including the US and Europe. People are trying to keep their heads above water despite cuts to services and welfare benefits and an increase in taxes, unemployment, and living costs.

Some people will be finding it more difficult than others. There are various groups and charities attempting to be there for others that require support themselves in order to continue the fantastic work that they do. Unfortunately, any funding that might have come from the state in the past would not now be available. If anyone who believes in a particular cause could afford even 50 cent or 1 Euro per week, it would be greatly appreciated and provide a huge help to their chosen organisation. Although a small financial commitment might not be possible, perhaps people can spare about an hour a week helping others.

We are all in this together and we therefore need to pull together and unite in order to get through it. We are stronger together.

I have been volunteering with the ISPCC for three years. The ISPCC is predominantly made up of volunteers who give up their time to listen to and support children. My commitment to the ISPCC is currently 4 hours per week. I also volunteer with Turn2me where I work 2 hours per week as a moderator for their online community.

If you can spare a small amount of time or money for a cause or organisation that you believe in, then please get in touch with your local volunteer centre to see what kind of an impact you can have on the lives of others.
