I am asking everyone to please Vote Yes in the Children’s Rights Referendum on Saturday 10th of November 2012. An explanation of the Children’s Rights Referendum can be found here. This is important so that children’s rights are protected under Irish law and that their voice is heard and their views taken into account in matters that affect them. We all have the right be to be listened to and that should include children. Below are the reasons why you should vote Yes.

1. Provide greater protection for children at risk

2. Allow the up to 2,000 children trapped in long term state care to be adopted and given a second chance at having a loving permanent family.

3. Ensure the best interests of children is the paramount concern in judicial decisions affecting children.

4. Ensure the voices of vulnerable children are heard.

5. This referendum is a statement of intent – it says who we are as a country and how we value children.
